Starting to Drift.
17th January 2024
After a cloudy start there were a few hours of nice lovely winter sunshine. The wind was strong enough at higher levels cause drifting of yesterday’s soft snow. As expected this has resulted in areas of windslab while not extensive, are poorly bonded. More of the same expected tomorrow and the next day as the winds continue to get up.
Drifting onto an East aspect.
The windslab which was being deposited was not well bonded as evidenced here cracking on easy angled terrain.
The view down into Strath Nethy. Not a great deal of snow. With very rocky runouts like this the consequences of even a small avalanche could be very serious.
Having a look at an avalanche recorded yesterday by a member of the public at the North end of Creagan Cha-no. Avalanche observations are always appreciated (thankyou for everyone who has done this), and can be submitted on the main website.
