Debris in Coire an Lochan.

30th March 2024

After a cloudy morning it cleared up for a few hours around the middle of the day before it clouded over again, there were some showers, but also some sunny spells during the afternoon. The clear conditions allowed a good opportunity to have a look at some recent debris in Coire an Lochan. On closer inspection it turned out there had been a number of small and medium size avalanches. Most of these looked to be soft slab with one pile of debris which was a bit firmer, this may well have been cornice collapse.

Coire an Lochan during a sunny period just after midday. It was not like this all day, during the afternoon the cloud came down and there were a few showers.

Avalanche debris in Coire an Lochan. This debris is a few days old, probably releasing on on Wednesday. Hard to see in this photo, but this was probably debris from two separate avalanches.

Another view of the same debris as shown in the previous shot. The previous picture was taken from roughly the level to the two figures in the shot.
