Another windy day

7th April 2024

Another windy day with gusts of around 96mph recorded on the summit of Cairngorm. The temperature on the summit of Cairngorm dropped to -1.8°C last night before creeping up above freezing around midday. The cooler temperatures would have firmer up the snowpack at higher levels. There were a few light showers during the morning, but these did never really came to much. The spring snowpack is continuing to consolidate and is generally stable throughout. Little change is expected tomorrow.

The view from Loch Morlich this morning. It was clearing going to be another windy day on the hill.

The view over to the West side of Cairngorm and Cas ridge. Still a reasonable amount of snow on higher Westerly aspects.

The smaller Loch in Coire an Lochan is mostly ice free.

However, the larger loch is still mostly frozen. Note all the dirt/soil on the ice in the middle of the Loch from avalanches earlier in the season.

Coire an Lochan. Very little fresh snow.

Various bits of debris from a number of  small avalanches were visible. These likely ran a couple of days ago (the same time the avalanches pictured in Coire an t-Sneachda on yesterdays blog post ran).
