Thawing
24th December 2024
From yesterday afternoon onwards it’s been very mild with freezing levels above the tops. Summit temperatures reached a high of plus 7 degrees celsius for a spell this morning. This along with gale to storm force Westerly winds has led to significant snow loss. The most extensive snow fields remain around corrie rims, back walls and areas on the plateau. Mild conditions are expected to continue for at least the next couple of days.
A flock of ducks enjoy the mild temperatures. The Northern corries can be seen in the distance.

The Coire an Lochain burn in spate; however it was still crossable at the stepping stones.
Looking into Coire an Lochain from 900 metres; here snow patches were soft and wet.
Snow melt in and around the burn.
