Bynack More

17th January 2025

Another mild day in the Northern Cairngorm area which continues to diminish the already depleted snow patches.  Ribbons, strips and patches are limited in nature and are now very much confined to North-East and East aspects above 1000 metres.  These patches can be found around coire rims, in deep gullies and at the tops of gullies where the snow had build up some depth.  These areas need to be sought out now.

Above: The Northern Coires.

Above: Ribbons of snow on North-East & East aspects at high elevations.

Above: Looking up towards Bynack Beg from Strath Nethy.

Above: strips of old snow lingering on high Eastern aspects.

Above: patches of snow lingering in wind sheltered locations.

Above: Bynack More & Bynack Beg.

Above: Views towards the Ben Avon massif – again encroaching onto the Southern Cairngorm area.

Love the reports, even when conditions are so poor…

Bizarrely there’s more snow left in England and Wales than Scotland by the looks of it !
Never ceases to amaze how quickly these mild Southwesterlies thaw the snow.
Any sign of wintriness in the forecast?
