Foggy

15th February 2025

After a short spell of snowfall, it was generally dry with a band of fog capping the Cairngorms above 1000 metres.  Cold conditions continue with winds strong enough for drifting snow.  Accumulations are becoming deeper in lee areas,  especially West to North aspects above 900 metres.  Continuing cold for the remainder of the weekend, with only a trace of new snow expected tomorrow morning.

Looking across the glen towards the Lairig Ghru and Braeriach.

To the left, Lurchurs gully looking a little wider than of late.

Looking down the Cas gully, a mix of fresh windslab, firm neve and ice.

Looking up the Cas gully, windslab to the left Neve to the right, fog and drifting snow above.

Firm windslab overlying soft creating snowpack weaknesses. This was on a small steep, convex, terrain feature at 1000 metres facing North-West.
