Calm with hazy sunshine.
7th March 2025
Light winds and hazy sunshine, a perfect day for a stroll around Cairngorm. Limited firm patches of snow remain on most aspects. North and East facing slopes hold the most, especially in places such as coire back walls, shallow burn lines and the plateau.
Ciste Mhearad.
Looking down the Ciste Mhearad burn line, the snow continues towards the top of the steepening slope beyond.
Looking down the East facing slope of Cairngorm, although sparse, there was a bit more snow in the steep rollover just beyond the foreground.
Loch Etchachan remains frozen, Carn Etchachan and Shelterstone to the right.
Ptarmigan’s are especially adapted for cold conditions. During winter they develop thick feathers on their feet to act as snow shoes and white plumage to provide camouflage against the snow.
Views across the plateau, Ben Macdui in the middle distant.
Looking West across the plateau towards Cairn Toul and Sgor an Lochain Uaine (Angels Peak).
Views of Coire an t-Sneachda from the West side of Cairngorm.
