What a difference a day makes…

10th March 2025

A return to winter…
Today the midday temperatures on the summit of Cairngorm were -5.0*C compared to yesterday’s +5.5*C
Heavy snowfall overnight was accompanied with gale force North-Easterly winds meant there was significant drifting on the plateau today. Isolated deposits of windslab are developing in wind sheltered locations on South to West aspects above 1000 metres, these areas of windslab are not extensive and generally avoidable.
Drifting snow is going to remain the theme for the next forecast period, with the winds remaining very strong and occasionally gale force. This will continue to develop the existing isolated patches of windslab in wind sheltered areas on South-East through South to West aspects above 100 metres. Other aspects will also be affected due to cross loading.

A winter landscape again…

Footprints in the new snow at 750 metres

Windy Col and the Mess of Pottage, wind drifting on to these Western aspects.
