Snow cover in the Cairngorms!

Due to the Northerly airstream and the heavy and showery nature of snow precipitation of the last days, the Cairngorms have received predominately more snow than any other mountain area. Snow amounts diminishing the further south the weather system travelled and so most other areas have been affected to a lesser degree. In the Northern Cairngorms deep snow and whiteout conditions were the order of the day today (Thursday) with blizzard conditions during the heavy showers. Good visibility is expected for most of the day on Friday but be alert to rapidly changing conditions through the afternoon with gale force winds and drifting snow rapidly building unstable windslab onto all Northerly aspects. A very sudden and surprising amount of snow for this time of year!
