Gnarly conditions

4th February 2026

Although much calmer with very little snow at glen levels, once above the Sugar bowl the change was dramatic with significant drifting on gale force South-Easterly winds. Some shelter could be found in the tree line, but anywhere exposed, conditions were very challenging due to the winds and poor visibility.  See photo’s below.

Ascending the old ski road at 510m.

Arriving at the down ski road at 550m.

Looking down the down road at 550m.

On the downhill ski road.  This group along with another couple of folk turned around at this point, as conditions dramatically deteriorated.

At 530m, conditions worsened by midday due to increasing wind speeds.

More drifting snow at 530 metres.

Looking onto the down road from 560m, the group enveloped in spin drift.
