Fluctuating temperatures

5th February 2026

During the night the freezing level rose to 1000 metres for a few hours before falling again to around 700 metres by late morning. This has aided snowpack stability at lower elevations.  At higher levels there was significant drifting where windslab accumulations continue to develop.  Turning cooler over the next 24 hours with drifting snow expected at lower altitudes.

At 800 metres, looking down the Aonach bowl towards Coire na Ciste.

Deteriorating conditions above 800m. Looking up the West Wall Poma.

Looking across Loch Morlich towards the Cairngorm’s this morning.
