Drifting snow

6th February 2026

Another day of continual light snowfall on gale force SSE winds.  Much calmer conditions at 600 metres but 150 metres higher at 750 metres it was completely different, gale force winds strengthened with height gain, these were accompanied by heavy drifting and white out conditions.  See photo’s below.

Large curly cornice on a steep bank at 800m.

Poor visibility above 850m mainly from drifting snow. Spot the two ski tourers middle left.

Calmer conditions at 500m where SARDA Lakes and SARDA England found enough deep snow to train their dogs for avalanche rescue.

More views looking up towards the Ciste ridge.

This is at 560m, on the down road from the ski area.

Deep snow between the roads.

The link road.

This morning, drifting snow onto the link road at 570m.
