Recent avalanche activity

16th February 2026

An avalanche was recorded on the system yesterday in the Chalamain Gap.  We appreciate you taking the time to report these and if we can, we will investigate. With the cloud base glued to about 650 metres today, it seemed a good place to go.  This human triggered avalanche took place at 640 metres on a North-West aspect.

Lurchers Gully just about visible on the right.

This took place around noon on the 15th February.

Close up of the debris pile – pole for scale.

Different angle. I measured 50m between the flanks and about a 20m bed surface.

Crown wall was 102cm in depth.

Failed on a weak layer above the old, firm snowpack.

It’s been snowy steady all afternoon down at base. No hill views today.
