Plenty of sunshine

28th February 2026

Light winds, sunshine and a thin cover of snow over a very firm base.  Underfoot conditions were very favourable, the firm snow ice made travel on foot with crampons swift.  For those touring on ski or split board the thin cover of unconsolidated snow made up for the icy snow beneath with just enough snow for some nice turns. Because the snowpack has refrozen and is very firm, steep slopes have very serious run out potential.

Strong the gale force winds on Sunday, lying snow will be redistributed onto lee slopes, before the arrival of milder conditions later in the day.
