Westerly airflow

14th March 2026

A frosty start in the glen this morning, less windy than yesterday but it was still quite blowy at height with drifting snow.  Visibility was variable with bouts of low cloud especially during the snow showers.  Underfoot conditions are also varied; very firm and icy on wind blasted slopes with serious run outs where steep, lumpy bumpy sastrugi in some areas, dense firm windslab on lee slopes, and some areas are just bare and icy.

Jack Frost on the car window first thing.

Very moody at times, this was looking across the East side of Cairngorm with Beinn Mheadhoin behind.

A skier and four legged friend enjoying the East side of Cainrgorm.

The Lairig Ghru, Lurchers crag on the left.

From the summit of Cairngorm a glimpse of Carn Etchachan and shelter stone before it disappeared in the mist.

Interesting wind eroded shapes.

Lurchers Gully, the tiny dots half way down are skiers.

A snap shot of Lochain, note the glide crack above the great slab.
