Spring snowpack

20th March 2026

A mild day with strong Westerly winds at higher levels.  The temperature on the summit of Cairngorm rose to plus 7 degrees Celsius around mid morning.  A very different snow pack than yesterday’s which was firm and icy, today it is very spring like especially on sun exposed slopes.

From the summit of Cairngorm views looking South with Cairn Etchachan and Shelter Stone Crag to the right.

Views looking across the plateau towards Ben Macdui.

Ski tourers make their way across the summit of Cairngorm in search of snow.

A snowboarder heads over to the East side of Cairngorm.

A bit fuzzy because they move so quickly,  but here’s a mountain hare just below the summit of Cairngorm.

Melting snow on Stac an Fharaidh slabs.

Bynack More.

Beinn Mheadhoin.

In the distance the summit tor of Ben Avon, to the right Beinn a Bhuird, obscured by cloud.
