A blanket of fresh snow
2nd April 2026
A dramatic end to yesterday with the onset of rain, then heavy snowfall, this cleared during the night. Today it was a bright sunny morning with a heavy frost in the glen. Summit temperatures rose from -6 to minus -3 Celsius by midday. A blanket of fresh snow lies on all aspects, this is windblown at higher levels with deep accumulations of windslab on Southerly aspects. Beneath the soft snow the snowpack is firm and icy and wind scoured on some exposed slopes at summit levels. Cloudy conditions through the afternoon with Southerly winds increasing to fresh as a front arrives bringing further snow and gales to the area over the next 24 hours.
