Billowing spindrift
11th April 2026
After a night of heavy snow on gale to storm force winds, it turned more showery in the day but these winds continued from the South with heavy drifting above 700 metres. Feeling bitterly cold with summit temperatures of minus 4 Celsius. Deep accumulations of new windslab have developed in lee areas, where exposed to the wind the old snowpack is very firm and icy. Snowfall and gale force winds expected to continue over the next 24 hours.
At 1000 metres, after 15 minutes equipment including a pair of skis became almost buried in drifted snow.
