The Scottish Avalanche Information Service issues information to support permitted activity under current Scottish Government guidance.

This blog is intended to provide hazard and mountain condition information to help plan safer mountain trips.
Persistent snowfall across the Cairngorms throughout the day.  This fell down to glen levels.  Gale force winds with blizzard conditions at 500 metres.  A sizable avalanche was observed at 550 metres on a South-West facing slope this morning.  Weaknesses persist at depth beneath widespread accumulations of windslab.  Blizzard conditions are set to continue.  See todays avalanche report for more details.

    Interesting to see that the Drumnochter section of the A9 now seems to have a considerable avalanche hazard
