Winter Returns at Higher Levels for a Day.

9th April 2024

Winter felt like it made a returned at higher levels today. Significant overnight snow continuing through the day and a strengthening North-Westerly wind made for poor visibility at higher levels. Looks like a wee bit of a break in the weather overnight before some more weather comes in from the West tomorrow. It will also turn significantly milder, with the freezing level rising well above the tops and rain falling at all levels.

It was raining heavily at Loch Morlich this morning. Good weather for duck some might say. I am not so sure, do ducks really like the rain/ Do they prefer the sunshine? Do ducks even have weather preferences like humans do?  All I can say for sure is that there were fewer ducks than normal this morning.

Substantial puddles at Glenmore Lodge this morning, there had been a fair bit of precipitation overnight which fell as rain at this level, but as snow at higher levels.

The weather station on the summit of Cairngorm. There was not a great deal to see on the hill, the cloud level was around 600 metres.

When the wind got up conditions felt quite serious with lots of drifting snow and poor visibility.
