Sunny Clear and Cold

10th February 2017

A glorious day on the hills today, nice to not have any wind. Snow cover is pretty lean for those hoping to go ski touring, most amounts tend to be below 800 metres or so.

Weaknesses still persist at depth in areas that have more accumulation, mostly these are on North West to North aspects above 950 metres. The weak snow layer is covered by harder windslab so it may not be noticed. So steep slopes of 35 degrees or more and convex shaped terrain I would treat with suspicion.

Looking across to the Fiachaill Coire an t -Sneachda and the cliffs of Coire an Lochain.

A pair ascending Fiacaill a Coire Chais

Cracking snow underfoot 1100m W aspects.
