Warm and windy

18th April 2019

A warm day with hazy sunshine.  Summit temperatures rose to plus 7 degrees Celsius by the afternoon.   South-Easterly winds were strong with some quite severe gusts at times.  The snowpack is generally thawing and spring like in most locations.  Northerly facing and shady slopes are firmer.  Large snowfields remain on the plateau.  Corrie back walls and major gullies still hold plenty of snow.  Cornice remnants overhang some steep slopes.
