Rain and severe gales

21st February 2020

Summit snow turned to sleet and heavy rain through the morning.  Storm force winds with gusts at summit levels up to 125 mph. Plus 5 degrees recorded at 800 metres at around midday.  A recent wet snow avalanche was observed on a steep, convex East facing slope in Lochain.  A day to hold onto loose items and use terrain features or boulders for shelter and a respite from the wind.  Precarious conditions in thawing boulder fields and stream beds,  a day of post holing to the top of your leg and beyond!
