Inversion continues

19th December 2021

Today was another stunning day with the high pressure and temperature inversion continuing. Sunny with warm temperatures on the summits with cloud and freezing temperatures lower down. The snowpack is very firm in most locations with serious run outs on steeper slopes. Looking across the plateau towards Ben Macdui, showing the patchy nature of the snow cover. The south facing slopes of Cairngorm in the foreground of the photo also hold some snow.

Looking into Coire an t-Sneachda, run outs on steep slopes are very serious just now.

Looking across to Beinn Mheadhoin on the right with cloud in the low lying valleys.

Looking North-West from the ski area with only a few hills visible in the distance.

While it has been above freezing on the summits this was Loch Morlich this morning.
