Windy Again Today

26th February 2022

Very strong Southerly winds were the main feature of today. It was a mainly dry day with occasional showers which were rain at most levels with snow on the summits. The snowpack is generally consolidating in the milder temperatures with a thaw at lower levels. However, some spindrift was observed at the top of Coire Laogh Mor today indicating fresh windslab will be starting to develop in high wind sheltered areas (North-West to North-East aspects above 1000 metres).

Looking into Coire Laogh Mor. The west facing slopes on the left nearly bare, with significant depths on the North-East facing slopes on the right.

A closer look into Coire Laogh Mor. Some debris is visible, most likely from a small cornice collapse triggered avalanche a couple of days ago.

Looking the other way towards Meall a’ Bhuachaille at 810 metres with only a small amount of snow remaining.
