Firm and icy.

14th March 2022

It was a clear morning in the Northern Cairngorms but with cloud building over the hills during the day. Strong winds were from the South.  Yesterday’s damp snowpack froze and consolidated in the cooler overnight conditions. This has left the snowpack hard and icy in many places, the consequences of a slip are serious. Little change in conditions expected tomorrow.

The view into Coire an Lochan this morning.

Plenty of water about. The lochans in Coire an t-Sneachda were very full today.

Fiacaill Buttress catching a bit of sunshine.

Debris below The Runnel from a small avalanche yesterday.

It was mostly cloudy when I was on the plateau. However, it did clear briefly to allow me to take this shot. Snow cover is still pretty good at higher levels.
