Thick clag today but getting colder with some snow!

29th March 2022

A day of poor visibility, couldn’t see anything so no photos, Sorry!

The Snowpack gradually softened during the day but remained reasonably firm in steeper Northerly slopes. Precipitation did not really start until mid afternoon but this will be light but steady snow showers overnight,  during the day this should gradually intensify. A really cold day is expected with -7 deg C expected at summit levels.

Significantly the old snowpack will refreeze and become very firm and icy, ice axe and crampons will be necessary for those unaware of snow hazards at this time of year. Care to avoid slips and falls will be important, run-outs are serious with boulders at the base of slopes awaiting!
