Cool with fresh snow

25th March 2023

A few centimetres of fresh snow fell during Friday night.  This overlies a widespread friable crust on all aspects, this developed yesterday during a mild spell.  Much cooler temperatures today, around minus 3 degrees C on the summit at midday.  A cloudy start to the day but this cleared for a few hours by late morning to give some panoramic views of the plateau.  Todays journey was a 360 degree circuit of Cairngorm.

Two ptarmigan on the East flank of Cnap Coire na Spreidha.

Lifting cloud with views of Beinn Mheadhoin, Loch Avon below.

From the South side of Cairngorm looking towards Loch Etchachan and Carn Etchachan.  Accumulations of new windslab can be seen in the foreground.

A ski tour group head up the South side of Cairngorm, the top of the Shelter Stone is just peeking out, Ben Macdui in the distance.

Looking West towards Coire an t-Sneachda and in the distance Sgor Gaoith.
