Rainbows

20th February 2024

There is little change in conditions with mild temperatures continuing through much of today. At midday the temperature at the Cairngorm Mountain car park was +8 degrees Celsius. However, the freezing level dropped beneath the summits towards the end of the day.

The old snow will be firm and icy tomorrow, with the freezing level being mostly around 800 metres, although there will be a brief and sharp rise to above the summits during the morning. Following this rise, a few wintry showers are forecast although they are not expected to be significant.

A showery morning was brightened up with a few rainbows …

The current state of play in Coire an Lochain. A few groups were out using the remaining snow for winter skills practice.

Cairn Gorm summit and Coire Cas. The old snow is around the coire headwall and along snow fence lines.

Another rainbow and a landscape devoid of snow …

A visit from Rescue 151 from Inverness on a bright afternoon.
