Obscured mountains

10th March 2024

Albeit first thing, the mountains were once again shrouded in a blanket of cloud for the duration of the day. Overall snowpack stability is good, slowly consolidating over time but there are some instabilities remaining in the highest of locations.

Above: Looking into Coire an t-Sneachda this morning, blustery but not as blustery as recent.

Above: Some drifting taking place today but not really settling anywhere.

Above: a dense ‘chalky’ snowpack with some lingering instabilities.

Above: typical plateau conditions. Icy and firm with many rocks exposed.

Above: Spot Height 1141m.  A solid landmark on an otherwise shelterless plateau with a good covering of rime.
